A recent study across 29 urban schools in Kingston, Jamaica found that community and school violence was the single greatest factor in low achievement for students. Davina James overcame traumatic events growing up in Jamaica to get an education, and now is on a mission to ensure children, and especially girls, are able to get an education no matter where they live. Since 2013, James has collected over 1.5 million pennies, or $15,000 for girls education, which has helped 300 girls get an education at the Zabuli Education Center in Deh’Subz, Afghanistan.
