For nearly 70 years, the Caterpillar Foundation has been deeply rooted in the communities in which we serve. Partnerships with various local and global organizations allow us to maintain our long-standing vision of transforming communities to be stronger, more resilient, and more sustainable.
As part of our support for our community in Houston, Texas, throughout the COVID-19 crisis, we proudly partnered with BakerRipley, a non-profit organization founded in 1907 that brings resources, education and connection to Houston’s most vulnerable communities and individuals in order to keep the region a place of opportunity for all. While the Foundation supported BakerRipley’s education and community programs in the past, our grant this year was focused on supporting their response to COVID-19 pandemic and helping them address some of the most pressing issues being faced by its community members.
“BakerRipley’s history and expertise in community building and disaster recovery enabled us to respond to the most pressing issues that our region and neighbors face. We mobilize and take action because it’s in our DNA. In a state of crisis, we know that our immediate response can’t wait because half a million people whom we serve depend on us; the region depends on us,” said Stephanie King, Director of Grant Development.
As a result, the organization quickly pivoted its strategies and programs to meet emerging challenges such as addressing the heightened food and basic needs insecurities and continuing its service and support by providing necessary virtual programming for individuals in need of access to key resources. In addition, the Caterpillar Foundation’s grant included support for programs like Fab Lab, which is allowing team members to manufacture Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and face masks for neighbors in Houston’s underserved East Aldine neighborhood.
BakerRipley provides holistic community-based programs in the areas of socioeconomic mobility, health and wellness, and disaster recovery to drive impact and further its vision of crushing inequities by maximizing the assets of communities in which they operate. “Since the onset of the pandemic, BakerRipley has been holding the line for our neighbors, responding to their most critical needs, while remaining committed to the safety of our staff and community. Our work – our mission – has not stopped.”
Caterpillar Foundation is proud of this work and the impact that we are able to have together on our Houston community.
