Refugees in Africa are Discovering a New Source of Income – Recycling

Approximately 300 miles east of Kenya’s capital Nairobi lays Dadaab, home to over 200,000 refugees who depend on aid – much of it packed in plastic packaging. The Red Cross supports the Dadaab project, where a small band of refugees have taken up the fight against plastic waste – and also earn an income from it. Plastic recycling has a huge potential as sustainable businesses and could serve as the ideal model for other large camps across Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania.
