Hector Samillan is an artisanal fisher in the coastal district of Acon, Peru who has experienced the effect excessive fishing of the coastal waters has had on declining fish populations and on fisher’s incomes. Fortunately, Hector and the other local fishers began working with Peruvian scientists and the Nature Conservancy to apply the FishPath approach to recover their coastal fisheries. After just one year of these new measures, healthier fish populations and increased fish stocks have given Hector access the high-end seafood restaurant market in Lima, where his fish are selling for higher prices.
