Donna Strickland has recently became the first woman to win the Nobel Prize in Physics in 55 years for her pioneering work in generating high-intensity laser pulses. According to a 2018 poll by Girl Up, 81% of girls think it’s important to have the same access to STEM learning that boys have, but only 42% feel they have equal access. As Strickland said at the Nobel Prize press conference, “We need to celebrate women physicists because we’re out there.”
