Caterpillar Foundation Is Proud To Support The King Baudouin Fund For Italy

The initial outbreak of COVID-19 spread across every region of the world within days, leaving countries no choice but to respond rapidly to protect their citizens. Italy was one of the first countries to experience severe impacts of the pandemic and go into lockdown to help stop the spread.

To date, healthcare workers across Italy are working tirelessly to provide aid to numerous patients with limited resources. As the pandemic continues to evolve and cases continue to rise, so does the need to support frontline workers. To respond quickly to these growing needs, philanthropic donors are leading the charge by deploying their resources in countries that are hit hardest.

Committed to supporting the communities in which Caterpillar employees live and work, the Caterpillar Foundation contributed $250,000 to the King Baudouin Fund for Italy to assist ongoing efforts to provide essential support and supplies to medical staff and patients. These include protective equipment, housing and childcare for frontline workers, additional intensive care unit beds and patient beds, and additional staff to adequately treat patients. The funds are being distributed among several hospitals:

  • Policlinico Sant’Orsola-Malpighi in Bologna
  • Ospedali Riunuti di Ancona in Ancona
  • ASST Grande Ospedale Metropolitano Niguarda in Milan
  • Fondazione Buzzi per L’ospedale dei Bambini in Lombardy
  • IRCCS Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli in Rome
  • Ospedale Fabrizio Spaziani in Frosinone
  • Ospedale San Jacopo di Pistoia Pistoia

The King Baudouin Fund for Italy was established by the King Baudouin Foundation United States, an organization committed to facilitate thoughtful, effective giving to Europe and Africa. The fund administers grants to local hospitals and nonprofits providing social services to vulnerable populations.

“We are proud to partner with King Baudouin Foundation United States to support the healthcare facilities critical to fighting the pandemic in the regions where we operate,” said Roberto Lorenzoni, Caterpillar country manager for Italy. “The Caterpillar Foundation is focused on building more sustainable and resilient communities, helping them emerge stronger together during this crisis.”
